Internet protocols starting with the application layer (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, DNS), visiting the transport layer (TCP, UDP), via network layer (IP) down to the link layer (MAC in LANs, PPP). Multimedia and quality of service (Streaming, IntServ, DiffServ) and management (SNMP) are also considered.

Language

All documents are written in English, the lecture and the exercise classes are in German.

Time and Place

Lecture: Wednesdays, 10 - 12, H5
Exercise Classes: Tuesdays, 12 - 14, 2.038 (Rechenzentrum)
Supervised Computer Hours: Thursdays, 12 - 14, 01.155 (CIP-Pool 1st floor)

Both exercise classes and supervised computer hours are offered. During the supervised computer hours you can work on the practical exercises (assignments) . A teaching assistant will be present every week to answer your questions. If no teaching assistant is present, you can discuss your problems with Mr. Kai-Steffen Hielscher (room 4.139) during the scheduled computer hours. After you have solved all exercises, you can take an exam (Klausur) to obtain the certificate (Schein). Topics of the lecture are practised in the exercise classes. The dates at which exercise classes are scheduled can be seen in the following table. Supervised Computer Hours are offered every week.
